One of the most exciting things about running True North Beauty is that I get to play around with different ingredients and test them out! I love formulating skincare products because it gives me the opportunity to research and discover some of the most innovative natural ingredients to use, that other companies aren’t using. Sometimes people, myself included, are skeptical about trying a product that uses less familiar natural ingredients. However, I have to admit that I fell in love with Manuka honey the first time I put it on my face and I knew it was the perfect ingredient for our exfoliating Face Polish!
This amazing ingredient is native to New Zealand and comes from the nectar of the Manuka Tree’s flower, hence the name. Manuka honey is different from other honeys – it contains a significantly higher percentage of a natural antibacterial compound called methlglyoxal compared to regular honey. This compound makes the honey a perfect natural skincare solution and a major reason why we chose to use it in our Face Polish.
There are so many other reasons to love Manuka honey, besides for its antibacterial properties. For starters, Manuka honey contains active compounds that are healing, hydrating, and brightening - all the things your skin wants and needs to look and feel its best! This type of honey also has serious anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. In fact, it's been used to heal cuts and burns for thousands of years and is even still used in hospitals today to help with wound healing. In addition, Manuka honey is full of the polyphenols (also found in wine and chocolate) which works to brighten and repair our skin, boost hydration, reduce redness, help keep acne-causing bacteria at bay, and reduces hormonal breakouts! WOW! That is a lot of great things that Manuka honey can do for your skin. Now you can see why we have chosen to use it in the Face Polish and why I fell in love with it!
I can go on and on about how much I love this ingredient in our Face Polish, but the best way for you to understand is to try it for yourself! A jar of our Face Polish will last approximately 4 months and only needs to be used 1 – 2 times a week. It will gently exfoliate your skin and leave it feeling “luxurious” as one of our customers has said!
